2017 is shaping up to be a great year for horror aficionados with the likes of It and Annabelle: Creation on the horizon. But for those wanting classic horror with a modern twist, then Alex Kurtzman’s bold re-imagining of The Mummy should supply plenty of scares.
The new trailer has just been released, focusing on the sinister origins of the mummy in question.
Here’s the official synopsis:
When an archaeology team led by adventurer and mercenary Nick Morton (Cruise), discover the tomb of a long lost Egyptian Queen (Sofia Boutella), they believe they have uncovered a discovery that could change the world. But Morton soon unravels that the Queen was robbed of her destiny, and cursed for all eternity, and that her awakening will have dire consequences for the earth. While he tries to contain the Queen, it becomes too late when her sarcophagus arrives in London, and she rises from her grave hell-bent on revenge.
Set to a dark rendition of The Rolling Stones’ Paint It Black, this trailer is promising some serious horror, especially for megastar Tom Cruise who finds himself as the Queen’s vassal following her resurrection. Expect animated corpses, hordes of rats, violent weather and some seriously creepy jump scares.
While Cruise is once again jumping head first into some crazy stunts, he’s also joined by a stellar supporting cast that includes Annabelle Wallis as intrepid archaeologist Jenny Halsey, Russell Crowe as the cunning Dr. Henry Jekyll, and Sofia Boutella as Princess Ahmanent, a terrifying force of evil who will undoubtedly consume our nightmares for months to come.
The scares will begin on June 8 in New Zealand and Australia, and on June 9 in the US and UK when The Mummy is released in cinemas.
