In case you haven’t seen it yet, the first teaser trailer for Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok was released today in epic fashion.
While we were stunned by the visuals and intrigued by the story, there were three stand out moments that really made us say “shut up and take our money.”
1. Jeff Goldblum being awesome (as per usual)
The inclusion of Jeff Goldblum aka master of our hearts in the major blockbuster was all we needed to know in terms of casting. As Grandmaster, ruler of the planet Sakaar where Thor finds himself fighting for his life, Goldblum is in the perfect position to show off his humourous side. While the teaser trailer was short, Goldblum was featured heavily, establishing his character as a force to be reckoned with.
2. Cate Blanchett breaking ground for Marvel
The Oscar winner has taken on the role of Hela, the film’s primary villain, and as always she steals the show. From the moment Hela takes Mjolnir away from the titular hero, it’s clear that the almighty god will have to rely on other strengths to overcome his latest challenge. However, what really got us excited was what Blanchett’s Hela represents: a new era for Marvel. The character is the first major female villain in the MCU, and though we would have loved to have seen Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel first, we’ll take what we can get. A little progress is better than none right?
3. The big green guy
Mark Ruffalo is a god amongst men but we’re equally happy to watch him as Bruce Banner aka the Hulk. His emergence in the later part of the teaser provides one of the biggest laughs, and we’re dying to see the big man in action…even if it’s against Thor.
Thor: Ragnarok will be released on October 26 in New Zealand and Australia, and on November 3 in the US and UK.
