Marvel is continuing its television takeover with a new series on Freeform based on the comic series Cloak and Dagger.
Created by Joe Pokaski (Heroes), the series follows two teenagers with superpowers whose relationship turns romantic. Olivia Holt plays the titular Dagger aka Tandy Bowen, who has the ability to emit light daggers, while Cloak aka Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph) can engulf people in darkness.
These aren’t your average Marvel superheroes, and the show doesn’t look to be your average superhero-oriented show. There’s bite and grittiness to the first trailer, and the chemistry between Holt and Joseph is palpable.
The series, which will premiere in 2018, scored big with the director for its pilot. Gina Prince-Bythewood (Beyond The Lights, Shots Fired) took on duties for the show’s first ep, and recently took to Instagram to thank the Marvel team and praise her experience.
Incredibly excited to be a part of the Marvel Universe! Gifted the opportunity to direct the pilot of Cloak and Dagger and work with my dope squad–editor #terilynshropshire and cinematographer #tamireiker. Can’t wait for the world to meet Tandy and Tyrone, beautifully realized by the incredible @olivia_holt and @aubreyomari. Big ups to creator Joe Pokaski and everyone at Marvel who gave me the keys to the Bugatti. Watch the official trailer at marvel.com and look for the series on @freeform in 2018! #cloakanddagger #marvel
