While 2016’s Suicide Squad might not have been David Ayer’s finest hour, the auteur director appears to be in his element with his brand new crime-fantasy thriller Bright.
Set in a world of human, elves and orcs, the film follows LAPD Officer Scott Ward (Will Smith) who is partnered with new recruit, and the first ever Orc police officer, Nick Jakoby (Joel Edgerton). Together the two come upon the discovery of a magic wand that could very well reshape the entire makeup of the earth and the creatures who rule it.
Bright certainly looks ambitious with its world building and special effects, and Ayer’s South Central gangster aesthetic takes a very lefty turn with the film’s fantastical elements.
Bright will premiere on Netflix on December 22.
