Regarded as the Greatest Briton of all time, Winston Churchill was a powerhouse political figure who stood up to tyranny in his nations darkest moment before leading it to victory. Now cinema legend Gary Oldman takes on the grandeur of Churchill’s life in the new trailer for Darkest Hour.
Here’s the synopsis:
Winston Churchill (Gary Oldman) faces a crucial moment against Adolf Hitler’s army during the Dunkirk invasion at the beginning of the Second World War, and finds himself questioning everything he has ever believed in.
Darkest Hour appears to be an incredible piece of cinema, which is anchored by the astounding transformation of Gary Oldman into the figure of Winston Churchill. Not only does he cut an impressive figure as Churchill, but his whole demeanour is clearly in line with the great bulldog of English politics.
Joining Oldman are a fantastic supporting cast including Ben Mendohlson as King George VI, Kristen Scott Thomas as Churchill’s wife Clementine, Lily James as Churchill’s personal secretary Elizabeth Layton and Ronald Pickup as Neville Chamberlain.
The buzz is already building for awards season with Darkest Hour and Oldman has been tipped for the possibility of claiming the Academy Award for Best Actor. While time will only tell whether he claims the award, Darkest Hour certainly appears to be a stunning piece of cinema.
Darkest Hour will arrive in cinemas on January 11.
