John Boyega has so far proven himself to be an unstoppable young performer and now the promising young star is set to headline one of next year’s biggest blockbusters in Pacific Rim: Uprising. The first trailer promises plenty of fun, and if you love rock’em, sock’em robot action then you’ve come to the right place.
Here’s the synopsis:
Ten years have passed since the Battle of the Breach and the oceans are still but restless. But when the Kaiju threat arrives again, Jaeger pilot Jake Pentecost (John Boyega), son of the legendary Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba), is tasked to lead the fight against the Kaiju’s and save humanity once more from the brink of extinction.
While Guillermo del Toro is not returning this time, director Steven S. DeKnight (Spartacus) has stepped up to the plate and is promising audiences plenty of large-scale action. DeKnight also appears to have reshaped the sequel and has applied a real military angle to the film that has some similarities to Platoon and Full Metal Jacket.
Boyega is in full control as the younger Pentecost and is channeling the charisma of Elba, and is joined in the film by Scott Eastwood’s Jaeger veteran Nate Lambert as his by the book co-pilot. Both Boyega and Eastwood appear in complete control here, and the film definitely boasts some epic scale CGI moments.
Pacific Rim: Uprising will be released on March 22, 2018 in New Zealand and Australia and on March 23, 2018 in the US and UK.
