As a three-time Academy Award winner Daniel Day-Lewis is regarded as one of cinema’s greatest ever performer, and now this titan thespian is embarking on his final performance in front of the camera with director Paul Thomas Anderson’s Phantom Thread.
Check out the new trailer below:
Set in post-war London, renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis) finds himself attracted to a strong-willed young woman named Alma (Vicky Krieps). Taking her as his lover and muse, Woodcock sets the fashion world on fire, but his need and desire for control and perfection begin to interfere with his work and the love that he has finally found for himself.
The first trailer for Phantom Thread makes for a particularly intense watch, and Day-Lewis’s focus and potent nature captures your attention from the offset. Thomas Anderson appears to have brilliantly captured the behind-the-scenes workings of a vintage atelier, and knowing Day-Lewis’s propensity for method acting I’m sure that he would have spent an incredible amount of time in preparation in real ateliers for the role.
In addition to directing the film, Thomas Anderson also serves as the film’s cinematographer and his camera work and lighting captures the lush details of the film’s gorgeous garments.
Phantom Thread as Day-Lewis’s final starring role will undoubtedly be a film to savour when it is released on February 1, 2018.
