Shane Black’s The Predator is one of this year’s most anticipated action films and the new trailer is a particularly gnarly watch that is packed out with plenty of badass thrills.

Check it out below:

Here’s the official synopsis:

From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home. The universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag mercenary (Boyd Holbrook) and a disgruntled scientist (Olivia Munn) can prevent the end of the human race.

Shane Black is a filmmaker who is a master of his craft as both a writer (Lethal Weapon) and director (Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, Iron Man 3) and when I saw that he was attached to this new addition to the Predator franchise I was very excited. Not only was he involved in the original 1987 action classic, but he’s a director who is always up for pushing the boundaries and that can only mean good things for The Predator!

The new trailer is a fast-paced watch and introduces us to some brand new Predators. These intergalactic hunters have been splicing themselves up with DNA from different species to make themselves into even better killers and from the intensity of what Black has shown up on screen you can bet that they’ll be plenty of gore on hand. Interestingly The Predator also looks to be following in the same succession of both Predator and Predator 2 so that hopefully means we’ll see references to both Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Major Alan ‘Dutch’ Schaefer and Danny Glover’s Lieutenant Michael “Mike” R. Harrigan.

Leading the charge this time is rising A-lister Boyd Holbrook who takes on the role of Quinn McKenna, a former Special Forces sniper who has witnessed the Predators first hand and survived them. Thrown into a mental hospital and questioned by a shady government agent (Sterling K. Brown) it soon becomes clear that Quinn is the only man who can stop the ensuing invasion.

I was a big fan of Holbrook’s work in Narcos and Logan and he’s bringing a great cynical edge to this tough as nails character who’s quick on the draw and not to fond of red tape. Paired with Olivia Munn’s disgruntled scientist Casey Bracket, the two will do whatever they can to stop the lethal aliens and this results in some incredible action scenes.

The teaser really got me amped and I especially like these new-look Predators. Check out my full trailer reaction below:

Whether its gun fights, explosions or some simple raw and bloody human/alien close-quarter combat, The Predator has it all and if you’re looking for a badass action experience you’ll get it on September 13.
