Steve McQueen is a filmmaker who ups the ante with each new project, and his latest film, Widows, a gritty crime drama which looks like it will flip the genre on its head, is an incredibly intense ride and promises to be one of the best films of this year.

Check out the new trailer below:

Here’s the synopsis:

After their career criminal husbands are gunned down in a bank robbery gone wrong, four grieving widows: Veronica (Viola Davis), Linda (Michelle Rodriguez), Alice (Elizabeth Debicki) and Belle (Cynthia Erivo), must pull together and finish the job to take care of a debt their husbands owe to a sinister crime lord, while also evading the attention of a shady politician (Colin Farrell).

The new trailer for Widows completely blew me away and I’m thinking that this film will end of being one of this year’s best watches. From its opening moments to its closing frame it crackles with a raw, unwavering intensity and lead star Viola Davis is completely in control. McQueen looks to have packed it out with some serious edge and it appears that he’s thrown in plenty of twists that will completely come out of nowhere, and when they do, well, they’ll rock you to your core.

In addition to the film’s leading ladies, Widows also features appearances by Colin Farrell, Jon Bernthal and Liam Neeson as Davis’ husband. Then there’s rising star Daniel Kaluuya as an unpredictable and psychotic gangster thug who is all kinds of creepy.

Widows will definitely take you for a ride when it is released in cinemas on November 29 and it is a piece of cinema that you definitely don’t want to miss out on.
