It was a rivalry that would become legend and that would set two nations at war, and now the ferocious battle for power between two of history’s most important monarchs will be played out in Mary, Queen of Scots.
Here’s the synopsis:
Mary Stuart’s, Queen of Scotland (Saoirse Ronan) attempt to overthrow her cousin Elizabeth I, Queen of England (Margot Robbie) finds both monarchs in a battle for supremacy that will define two nation states and lead to one of history’s most infamous deaths.
Watch the dramatic new trailer below:
The new trailer for Mary, Queen of Scots is a rousing watch and features two knockout performances from Saoirse Ronan as Mary Stuart and Margot Robbie as Elizabeth I. While Ronan is portrayed as the beautiful, yet rebellious Mary, Robbie takes on the guide of the cunning and intelligent Elizabeth I who deduces that her monarch cousin is a rival who must be eliminated with utter ruthlessness if her rule is to be legitimized.
Director Josie Rourke packs the film out with plenty of high tension and the dramatic battle of wills that exists between these two monarchs will certainly grab the attention of moviegoers.
I can also sense a real awards buzz here as well and both Ronan and Robbie serve up considerable performances. If you’ve read your history books then you know how it all turned out for Mary in the end but before that decisive blow can be struck we’ll get a rousing story that will grip you from beginning to end.
Mary, Queen of Scots will arrive in cinemas next year on January 17, 2019.
