Walt Disney Pictures are moving forward quickly into production for their exciting re-imagining of Mulan and now we’ve got the first look at Liu Yifei as the warrior princess herself.
Dressed in crimson and brandishing a long sword, Yifei is perfectly placed to take on the character who disguises herself in order to fight in the Chinese Army to protect her father from being conscripted, while also saving her country in the process.
Director Niki Caro (Whale Rider, The Zookeeper’s Wife) is taking the lead on production and given her renown for her attention to detail and well thought out narratives it’ll be very exciting to see where filming leads.
Yifei is also being joined by an exciting cast of both legendary actors and fresh faced talent including Yoson An as Chen Honghui, a new recruit and Mulan’s eventual love interest, Donnie Yen as Commander Tung, a mentor and teacher to Mulan, Gong Li, as a powerful witch who seeks to overthrow all of China, Jason Scott Lee as Bori Khan, a dangerous warlord who allies himself with the witch and Jet Li as the Emperor of China.
The 1998 animated film is regarded as one of Disney’s best ever films and it’s exciting to know that this story will be brought to the big screen again. Get ready for the passion and majesty of Mulan when it arrives in cinemas on March 26, 2020.
