If you look up the word tough in the dictionary you’re most likely to see a picture of Tom Hardy next to it. The man personifies the word and has made a name for himself portraying larger than life characters who take what they want and have no qualms about the repercussions.
Now the noted thespian is getting ready to showcase his take on one of America’s most feared and ruthless gangsters of all time, Al Capone, in the biographical movie with a twist Fonzo.
The new image comes courtesy of director Josh Trank (viaCollider) and who after a much publicized fall from grace is working hard to resurrect himself as a filmmaker. For his subject matter he’s chosen an interesting take on the life of Al Capone and is promising a biopic with a twist here.
The new image shows a particularly disheveled Hardy who is portraying Capone in his twilight years and who suffering from dementia and other ailments begins to witness bizarre hallucinations of his life of crime.
Here’s the official synopsis:
A ruthless businessman and bootlegger who ruled Chicago with an iron fist, Al “Fonzo” Capone (Hardy) was the most infamous and feared gangster of American lore. At the age of 47, following nearly a decade of imprisonment, dementia rots Capone’s mind and his past becomes present as harrowing memories of his violent and brutal origins melt into his waking life.
With an actor as talented as Hardy you can bet that Fonzo is gonna be a wild ride and it will arrive in cinemas next year.
