Academy Award winning filmmaker Steve McQueen (Hunger, 12 Years A Slave, Shame) and celebrated writer Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl) are ready to take audiences into a dangerous criminal world ‘where you reap what you sow’ in Widows.
The brand new trailer is here and is a seriously intense watch. Check it out below:
After their career criminal husbands are gunned down in a bank robbery gone wrong, four grieving widows: Veronica (Viola Davis), Linda (Michelle Rodriguez), Alice (Elizabeth Debicki) and Belle (Cynthia Erivo), must pull together and finish the job to take care of a debt their husbands owe to a sinister crime lord, while also evading the attention of a shady politician (Colin Farrell).
While the first teaser trailer only gave us a subtle look into this ambitious crime drama, this larger trailer showcases the incredible performances that McQueen has been able to get out of his cast who are lead in a powerful performance by Viola Davis and which features a great supporting line-up including Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki, Cynthia Erivo, Colin Farrell, Jon Bernthal, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Garrett Dillahunt, Robert Duvall and Liam Neeson.
This eclectic mixture of narrative, performance and bone crunching action is sure to leave audiences puffing with adrenaline and with Flynn at the helm of the narrative I’m in no-doubt that they’ll be plenty of twists and turns along the way that audiences definitely won’t see coming.
I’m also anticipating a significant awards buzz here as well, especially for Viola Davis who gives one incredibly nail-biting performance as the film’s lead Veronica Rawlins who is forced to give up all of her ideas of right and wrong when she becomes embroiled in an incredibly dark situation.
Get ready for a rush when Widows is released in cinemas on November 22.
