Here’s the synopsis:
Based on the sensational true story that shocked Britain, King of Thieves follows the exploits of aging criminal and widower Brian Reader (Caine) who stumbles upon a fiendishly smart plan to rob the Hatton Garden Safe Deposit with his former criminal pals (Jim Broadbent, Tom Courtney, Michael Gambon, Ray Winstone) and his young nephew Basil (Charlie Cox). The plan is pulled off without a hitch and the gang walks away with over $200 million pounds of stolen cash and jewels…but then cracks start to split open within the gang and soon they’re double crossing each other like jackals as the police close in around them.
They say that the truth is often stranger then fiction and in the case of King of Thieves it most definitely is. Dramatizing one of the most daring robberies in modern British history, King of Thieves tells the true story of the Hatton Garden Safe Deposit Robbery which occurred in 2015 and which shocked a nation. The sensational crime only got stranger and stranger and its a ripe tale for cinema.
Michael Caine again looks to give an exceptional performance as ringleader Brian Reader and the film could best be described as a lesson in British screen craft.
Packed out with drama, intensity and some laugh-out-loud comedy, King of Thieves is a film to get really excited about and it will arrive in cinemas on October 18.
