Check out the official synopsis below:
Set in the mid-1990s, Captain Marvel follows Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), a former U.S. Air Force fighter pilot, as she turns into one of the galaxy’s mightiest heroes and joins Starforce, an elite Kree military team, before returning home with new questions about her past and identity when the Earth is caught in the center of an intergalactic conflict between two alien worlds.
This first trailer for Captain Marvel is filled out with a great sense of cosmic hope and it certainly wants you to reach for the stars. Lead actress and Academy Award winner Brie Larson is really bringing her A-Game here and she certainly shines as former Air Force pilot Carol Danvers who has a chance encounter with the universe and is changed forever.
When I watch Larson’s performance here I felt a real sense of possibility and optimism, and her performance is filled with a feeling that anything can be accomplished. As Captain Marvel her powers and abilities are simply out of this world and you can definitely tell that she’s a scraper who’ll never give up. When times get hard you need a hero like this and it’s good to know that we’ve got one like this in Danvers.
In addition to Larson, Captain Marvel is also filled out with a fantastic supporting cast including a de-aged Samuel L. Jackson as a young Nick Fury who is at the point of burnout fallowing the end of the Cold War and encounters his purpose when he meets Danvers for the first time. And we’re also going to get a solid performance from noted thespian Jude Law as Danver’s mentor and instructor Walter Lawson aka Mar-Vell who will guide her in the journey she must undertake in order to become a superhero.
This teaser is also incredibly enjoyable to watch thanks to the presence of its 1990s setting as well with some very loud callbacks to the decade including a Blockbuster Video store which Danvers crash lands into in the beginning of the trailer. Then there’s the unexplored landscape of the MCU and the coming presence of the Skrulls who are led by the shape shifting Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) who has a desire to conquer the earth once and for all and which will lead to one hell of a battle.
Things are getting exciting for the future of the MCU thanks to Captain Marvel and this is one cinematic experience that will definitely provide you with a solid rush when it arrives in cinemas next year on March 7, 2019.
