The outlaw world of Mayans MC just keeps getting crazier and with each passing episode life gets all the more complicated for young prospect Ezekiel ‘EZ’ Reyes (J.D. Pardo).

Episode Five ‘Uch/Opossum’ starts off with a shocking revelation for Angel (Clayton Cardenas) and he soon finds himself in some serious trouble that he can’t help but pull EZ into. And then there’s EZ who has even more problems following the tumultuous events of last weeks episode following Emily’s (Sarah Bolger) desire to get her son back and the chaos that resulted from her attempt to dive into Miguel’s world.

Here we get a deeper look into the broken and fractured history that is shared by EZ and Emily and you can feel how the sins of the past are destroying any chance of happiness that each of them might have in the present and future. And in between these two lost lovers comes the presence of Miguel Galindo (Danny Pino), Cartel boss and Emily’s husband who is none to happy with EZ’s long lost affections for his wife and who gives him a stern warning: stay away or face the consequences.

In terms of sheer drama its certainly an exciting development and keeps Mayans MC exciting because you never know what is going to happen around the next turn. While the focus of this episode is ultimately upon the long torn love between EZ and Emily I liked how the narrative was broken up by a certain side quest with Angel’s desire to make some quick money for Adelita and how this unraveled pretty quickly as his enthusiasm got the better of him. Director Batán Silva also lays down some interesting future road map with the introduction of the sinister Cole (Branton Box), a psychotic mercenary who makes Angel a proposition he simply can’t refuse and who I think we’ll see back again down the line.

With ‘Uch/Opossum’ it was cool to see things take a different turn and the action of the narrative pull away from EZ a little bit and shine a light on other members of the Mayans such as Angel. We also get a ‘meeting of the minds’ between EZ and Galindo in one of the series tensest moments to date along with a shocking revelation from Emily to EZ that will have you gasping in shock.

The heat is ramping up on Mayans MC and the line between right and wrong is vanishing quickly.

Mayans MC will premiere new episodes every Wednesday at 9.30pm on SOHO and Neon.
