Tom Hardy unleashed his dark side in 2018’s big budget antihero action-fest Venom, and it brought in a staggering worldwide box office of $855.7 million dollars. This was a clear expression that fans clearly loved Venom and now plans are in the works for a sequel.
It’s early days yet but Variety has confirmed that Tom Hardy will return as Eddie Brock/Venom and that Michelle Williams and Woody Harrelson are both likely to have key roles ion the sequel as Brock’s love interest Anne Weying and the psychotic serial killer Cletus Kasady who is better known to fans as Carnage.
Variety reports that Kelly Marcel (Fifty Shades of Grey, Cruella) is attached to the project as screenwriter and that the hunt will be on for a new director to take up the reigns as Ruben Fleischer will be busy with the Zombieland sequel.
The prospect of seeing Hardy and Harrelson go head-to-head as Venom and Carnage is a very exciting proposition and I personally can’t wait to see where we go from here. No formal release date has been set, but Variety does indicate that the sequel could arrive in theatres in 2020.
