David Harbour’s upcoming turn as Hellboy really has me intrigued and now we’ve got a new look at the relationship between the world’s coolest demon and his adoptive father, Professor Trevor Bruttenholm, played by the legendary Ian McShane.
While the father-son relationship has always played an important part of the Hellboy mythos, it’ll be interesting to see where it goes here and just how much guidance Professor Bruttenholm can provide to his raging demon of a son.
While Harbour appears to be channeling Hellboy’s blue-collar working man mentality, I’m curious as to how McShane will fit into the film as Bruttenholm. In my opinion I think we’ll find a character who is more an aged man of action type, like a character who was once an academic adventurer, but who has now stepped back into the shadows of academia and has once again found a way to use to vast knowledge to fight the forces of evil.
Director Neil Marshall is looking to take his adaptation back to the comic books darker roots here and his focus is on making a film that will adapt the midnight horror movie aspects of the source material, along with offering a good helping of gore.
Get ready for a good serving of smackdown action when Hellboy arrives in cinemas on April 4.
