Zac Efron is truly about to leave his innocent charm behind as he steps behind the evil veneer of America’s most infamous serial killer Ted Bundy in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.
The new trailer has arrived and it’s a ghastly watch. Check it out below:
Here’s the full synopsis:
The story of Ted Bundy (Efron) is shown from the perspective of his girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer (Lily Collins), who struggled to accept the reality of her boyfriend’s nature.
Directed by award winning documentary filmmaker Joe Berlinger, who has recently released a new documentary concerning Bundy’s crimes in Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes which arrived on Netflix, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile will seek to tell the true story of Bundy’s evil life from the perspective of those closest to him and examining what drove the sociopathic killer to do what he did.
Efron lets all of his baby-faced charm fall away as this charming narcisstic who confessed to more than 30 killings before he was sent to the electric chair and his performance here looks particularly chilling.
Along with Efron there’s also the presence of Lily Collins as Bundy’s long-time girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer who finds herself questioning her boyfriends nature and struggled to come to terms with his crimes.
The film’s narrative structure, of being told through a woman’s perspective, is an extremely interesting choice given Bundy’s crimes were exclusively perpetrated against women and Berlinger will certainly take audiences to a very dark place here.
Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile is set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival and will arrive on cinemas later this year.
