Over the last few years Frank Grillo has become Hollywood’s go-to slugger with the actor asserting himself as the heir apparent to Charles Bronson and becoming a dependable rough and tumble actor who brings an intense physicality to his roles.
His love for combat sports is well known and now he gets to bring this love to the big screen with the intense adaptation of cult sci-fi novel Donnybrook and it looks like one very intense film.
Check out the brand new trailer below:
A former soldier, Jarhead Earl (Jamie Bell) competes against a violent yet conflicted drug dealer named Chainsaw Angus (Frank Grillo) in a bare-knuckle fight, for a large cash prize.
Shot with a beautiful starkness that brings back memories of films like The Road and No Country For Old Men, Donnybreak looks like a full-on watch that will really deliver on its slowburn rage. Both Grillo and Bell are in for a fearsome showdown here and when they finally meet in the cage you can be sure that it’s gonna be total carnage.
Along with its brutal combat the film also has an interesting intellectual concept to it as it examines a future society in the midst of a ‘survival of the fittest’ idea. Cinematographer David Ungaro has captured the film with an amazing cool colour palette and director Tim Sutton really puts his audience right into the heart of the action.
Get ready for a brawl when Donnybrook arrives in theatres on January 15.
