Production is kicking into gear for Birds Of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), and in a special surprise director Cathy Yan has offered us a short sneak peak at the characters in a brand new reel.
Check it out below:
The footage might be short, but all of our lead characters are present including Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Helena Bertinelli/Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Dinah Lance / Black Canary, Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz and Ewan McGregor as the villainous Black Mask.
It’s a short burst, but this footage really brings audiences into the bold new style of the film, and presents an all-new Harley Quinn for Margot Robbie who has removed her tattoos, cut her blonde hair short and is now draped in full-on pop-punk princess style that has a real 1980s Madonna edge to it thanks to its bright colours and sparkly design.
Robbie also offered up her legions of fans a closer look at her newly styled Harley courtesy of her Instagram account:
While the footage has only been shot in a production warehouse, bereft of sets or other background detail, it has been designed to give us a taste of what is to come and I really sense that they’ll be a lot of neon lit night shoots going on here and that Yan is looking to make her film pop.
Described by Margot Robbie as a ‘girl gang’ film, Birds Of Prey promises to be another exciting development in a continually evolving DCEU and with this quick flash of design that has been seen here I’m certain that we’ll be in for a real treat here.
Here’s the full synopsis:
Since the events of Suicide Squad, Batman has disappeared, leaving Gotham City unprotected from crime, and Harley Quinn (Robbie) has left the Joker (Leto). When Cassandra Cain, a young girl, comes across a diamond belonging to crime lord Black Mask (Ewan McGregor), Harley recruits Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), and Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez) to help protect her.
Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) will arrive in cinemas next year on February 6, 2020.
