Sometimes it takes a spark to find a hero and our protagonist Tim Goodman (Justice Smith) is going to find plenty of it in his brand new partner Detective Pikachu (Ryan Reynolds) in the exciting new trailer for the much anticipated POKÉMON Detective Pikachu.
Watch the wicked new trailer below:
Here’s the official synopsis:
In the Pokémon universe, Tim Goodman (Justice Smith) is a failed Pokémon Trainer and the son of prominent detective Harry Goodman. When his father disappears in a car crash, Tim arrives in Ryme City and ends up meeting Detective Pikachu (Ryan Reynolds) who was Harry’s former Pokémon partner. Tim is somehow able to understand the Detective and they reluctantly team up to find Harry and uncover the mystery surrounding his disappearance.
With some amazing CGI, a brilliant narrative, a whole lot of cuteness and plenty of laughs for good measure, POKÉMON Detective Pikachu is shaping up to be the perfect film for POKÉMON fans young and old, and star Ryan Reynolds has plenty of panache as the titular Pikachu detective whose blessed with an extremely deductive mind and an obsession for caffeine.
The new trailer really opens up the world of POKÉMON Detective Pikachu and we get to see a lot of action this time around as both Tim and Detective Pikachu find themselves in a growing conspiracy as they make their way to Ryme City and have to deal with plenty of weird, wonderful and sometimes dangerous Pokémon.
The film has a great 80s quality to it and with the appearance of the new trailer I’m really reminded of the likes of classic coming of age stories such as The Breakfast Club and Back to the Future with it’s tone and style. And with it’s thumping use of Bonnie Tyler’s ‘Holding Out For A Hero’ well you seriously find your groove here as Detective Pikachu finds his way into the ring to face down a Charizard!
An incredible adventure awaits ahead of us when POKÉMON Detective Pikachu arrives in cinemas on May 9, 2019.
