Walt Disney’s new streaming service Disney+ is something to really be excited about, not only will we see the entire backlog of Disney and Fox titles, but a whole bunch of new series will be making their way online with some serious production values attached. One of the most intriguing projects is The Mandalorian, a gritty frontier crime western set to redefine the Star Wars universe, and now we’ve got a look at what awaits us.

Taking place after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order, The Mandalorian will follow a lone gunfighter (Pedro Pascal) in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic, as he seeks out his claims and pursues his own personal vendettas.

Written by noted director Jon Favreau (Iron Man, The Lion King), The Mandalorian is unlike anything we’ve seen in the Star Wars universe before and Pedro Pascal makes for one hell of a badass here. Clad head to foot in Mandalorian armour and packing some serious weaponry, this outlaw bounty hunter has the swagger of a ‘Man With No Name’, and he’s sure to cause plenty of trouble throughout the outer rims. Added to Pascal’s casting is also the presence of Gina Carano as Cara Dune, a runaway Rebel Alliance wardog and the legendary Carl Weathers as Greef Karga, who acts as The Mandalorian’s handler and is a serious player in both the underworld and the bounty hunting guild.

Along with it’s cast, there’s also the creative team behind the show who will include Dave Filoni, Taika Waititi, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa, and Deborah Chow on directing duties, and with this much talent audiences will be really in for a treat.

From these first images it’s clear that Favreau and Disney are marching towards a real spaghetti-western inspired vibe with the content, and the action to come will feature plenty of good ol’fashioned gunfights that will come with a serious edge. Pedro Pascal’s involvement in the series is something that will be really exciting to see unfold, especially with his level of talent and the performances that he is capable of.
