It’s official! Robert Pattinson has now officially signed on to portray Bruce Wayne/Batman for director Matt Reeves forthcoming The Batman movie which is due to arrive in cinemas in 2021.
Variety confirmed that the actor has now signed a deal to star as vigilante crime fighter Bruce Wayne/Batman in the much anticipated forthcoming film from director Matt Reeves which will be the first film in a new Batman trilogy.
Pattinson beat out fellow Brit Nicolas Hoult (Tolkien, X-Men) for the role in final testing and is officially signed on as of today.
Pattinson’s casting is sure to cause discussion among fans with some looking to his incredibly diverse film slate to highlight his talents as a performer, while others only see him as the Twilight guy.
We’ve been following Pattinson’s proposed casting ever since it was announced that he was the front runner and are waiting with a ‘let’s see what it looks like’ before looking to comment on anything officially.
Rumours abound that alongside Pattinson’s Batman, key villains for this first film could include The Penguin and Catwoman, and that Reeves intends to focus on Batman’s detective characteristics and that the film will be inspired by film noir and be set in the early 1990s. It has also been confirmed that The Batman will not be an origin story.
Pattinson has a way to go before production on The Batman begins and he’ll next seen as a headlining star in Christopher Nolan’s Tenet. Then there’s also the notion that the young star will be sent to the gym for one hell of a physical makeover and I’m interested to see what the results of that will be like.
The Batman is set to arrive in cinemas on June 24, 2021.
