Last week’s episode of Warrior was a complete smash mouth of martial arts action that Andrew Koji’s hero Ah Sahm beaten to a pulp and stripped of all his might. In Episode 10, the final episode of Warrior’s first season, we see what such a loss has done to Ah Sahm and it’s not a cuddly experience.

Thrown from the ranks of the Hop Wei, Ah Sahm finds himself breaking his back as a Coolie labourer, and the harsh realities really set in. It’s definitely a traumatic scene seeing Ah Sham like this, and he’s content with his fate until some harsh words from Hoon Lee’s Wang Chao wakes him up, specifically Chao’s history as a former slave in the Caribbean and his notion that as a warrior, Ah Sahm has only two choices: ‘Get Dead. Or Get Better.’

Again we’re seeing the core of the martial arts play out here, and it’s his decision to accept his pain and ride above it really elevates Ah Sahm to a higher level. With his purpose now found again some serious fights break out and we finally get to see Ah Sahm go head-to-head with Dean Jagger ‘s brutal Irish gang lord Dylan Leary and it’s one hell of a scrap.

As a final episode, “If You’re Going to Bow, Bow Low” is a great end note for the final of Warrior, and it really sets the stage for what is to come in season two. And let’s just say that things are going to get very interesting for Ah Sahm and Warrior down the line.

Warrior screens every Thursday on Neon.
