Things have been heating up quickly with Walt Disney Pictures latest live-action adaptation of classic Disney film The Little Mermaid. Director Rob Marshall (Memoirs of a Geisha, Mary Poppins Returns) is taking the helm here and his cast is now coming together.
The Hollywood Reporter has officially confirmed that singer-songwriter Halle Bailey will take on the role of Ariel, the rebellious daughter of King Triton who longs to live on dry land.
On the casting of Bailey, Marshall said “after an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance — plus a glorious singing voice — all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role.”

With Marshall’s talent for visual flair, The Little Mermaid will be a project to definitely get excited about and it should begin production sometime in 2020.
