Dwayne Johnson gives ‘Black Adam’ update

He’s the busiest man in Hollywood and one of Dwayne Johnson’s forthcoming projects is the much anticipated Black Adam.

This spiritual co-production to Shazam! has been on Johnson’s list for more than 14 years and while promoting his recent blockbuster Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw Johnson gave an update on the tone of the movie and just what audiences can expect from his character.

“Black Adam, how he starts, he starts off as a villain. Then, he becomes an anti-hero, And then he might become a hero, or he might not.” said Johnson.

Expanding on Johnson’s statement producer Hiram Garcia opened up further on both the character and the overall tone of Black Adam offering up plenty of detail.

“Well, you’re going to meet a character who’s going through a journey. And I think the idea is, look, we know the root of obviously Black Adam. He was created as a villain. And he evolved into an antihero. The Antihero is a character that we always loved and that we responded to. But ultimately this is a guy who he does have a moral compass as skewed as it may be. And ultimately he is a guy that everything has always been driven by his family and what happens to them. And he is never opposed to unleashing hell when you cross him.”

The concept of Dwayne Johnson getting to play a full-on villain would be a real treat and would shake up the star’s credit list. I’d really be intrigued to see Johnson dive deep into a character such as Black Adam and commit to playing a really nasty villain.

Recently director Jaume Collet-Serra signed on to direct the film having worked with Johnson on Jungle Cruise and filming for Black Adam is expected to begin after Johnson finishes production on Red Notice.

Black Adam is still a long way away, and it’s likely we won’t see it in cinemas till at least 2022 – 2023, but with a character like this it’ll be well worth the wait.
