It was the action film that really charged up audiences and now Toa Frazer’s sensational film The Dead Lands is ready to arrive on the small screen thanks to Shudder and TVNZ and its first trailer is absolutely savage!
Check it out below:
Here’s the official synopsis:
A murdered Māori warrior, Waka Nuku Rau (Te Kohe Tuhaka), who is sent back to the world of the living to redeem his sins. But the world Waka returns to is ravaged by a breach between Life and the Afterlife as the spirits of the newly dead now stalk the land and hunt the living.
Waka encounters a determined young woman, Mehe Te Wehiwehi (Darneen Christian), who becomes both his protégé and moral compass. Together, they navigate tribal politics, the unsettled ghosts of ancestors and other forces both natural and supernatural, on a quest to discover who “broke the world” and how to repair it—if it’s not too late.
Inspired by Frazer’s 2014 action film of Maori warfare and warrior spirits, The Dead Lands television series is sure to be a sensational piece of genre television and for those wanting something gritty, well, they’ve come to the right place.
New Zealand actor Te Kohe Tuhaka is set to take on the lead role here of Maori warrior Waka Nuku Rau, and the actor is absolutely shredded and in full beast mode as he goes on a quest for revenge against a horde of horrific undead warriors through a dangerous untamed Aotearoa.
The new series is also set to explore the Maori martial art of Mau Rākau, and there are some terrific close quarter combat sequences on display in the first trailer here.
The Dead Lands arrives on TVNZ next year on January 24 and it will be an incredible event for action fans that they won’t want to miss out on.
