In what is utterly spectacular news, it appears that bonafide acting royalty Christian Bale is being touted for a role in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bale is currently in negotiations to join the blockbuster Phase Four film, and if he indeed does join it, he’ll star alongside Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster.
Bale who is best known for his appearance in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight saga has avoided the spotlight of genre films for some time, and if he does indeed accept the role it would really send fans into a frenzy.
Bale is currently coming off of terrific reviews for his work in James Mangold’s Ford v Ferrari and his potential involvement in the MCU is causing plenty of speculation. While Marvel have not publicly conformed who he may play there is plenty of speculation building.
With Waititi taking inspiration from Jason Aaron’s run on the Thor comics, speculation is that he may be taking on the role of Dario Agger, a corrupt and dangerous business tycoon who has the ability to transform into a Minotaur. But if he doesn’t take the path of a villain, he could also potentially be being viewed as several heroic characters including Thor’s brother Balder or the cult classic character Beta Ray Bill.
While we’re still a long way of knowing with conformation that Bale is a part of the MCU the thought of an actor of his quality, talent and commitment to this growing cinematic universe would be pretty awesome to see come true.
Thor: Love and Thunder will arrive in cinemas on November 5, 2021
