New reports have now surfaced that the first footage from Denis Villeneuve’s Dune has been shown to a select panel of Hollywood insider and it has been described as utterly incredible.

MovieWeb reported that a select few were treated to some first look footage from Dune, along with new cast interviews highlighting the production, and those in attendance marveled at what was shown to them. Science fiction author Brian Clement was one of the lucky few shown the new footage and he was blown away describing it in a similar light to both The Lord of the Rings and Star Wars.

“As a follow-up re my opinion on new Dune based only on the footage I saw (since people are curious), I think this will blow people away the way LOTR did 20 years ago, the way Star Wars did 40 years ago. It’s not Jodorowsky or Lynch, but maybe Villeneuve has filmed the un-filmable,” said Clements.

Clements described the cinematography as “beautiful”, and expanded saying “I’m not exaggerating when I say a lot of people will have goosebumps/tears when they see this movie (I might!). Heck, when they see the footage I saw they will.”

The footage showcased a first look at star Timothee Chalamet as Paul Atreides, and even included some shots of him in his stillsuit, along with showcasing some footage of Stellan Skarsgard as Baron Harkonnen and Jason Momoa as Atreides sword master Duncan Idaho. Dave Bautista was also present in the footage and was described as looking ‘creepy’ as the brutal Glossu Rabban.

Stylistically Clements described Dune as being a mix of “grimy realism mixed with dreamy imagery”, and it sounds like audiences will be treated to something phenomenal when the movie arrives in cinemas at the end of this year.

While Villeneuve is currently deep in post-production on Dune I still think it will be some time before we actually see any type of additional materials for Dune, but from these descriptions I’m very excited for what lies ahead.

Dune will reach cinemas this year on December 26.
