The Skywalker Saga has come to completion with 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and now new space exists for a bold new realm of Star Wars movies.
One director who was recently discussing what he would do with the Star Wars canon was Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson who took to Twitter to pitch his idea for a RADICALLY different take on Star Wars.
In a series of now deleted tweets, MovieWeb reported that Derrickson said that his approach would be an R-rated Star Wars horror film set on the ice planet Hoth, which was first introduced to audiences in The Empire Strikes Back and Derrickson’s comments are wildly original.
“Just asked what kind of Star Wars movie I would make. I answered that I would make Hoth, an R-rated frozen planet horror film in the vein of The Thing or Lovecraft’s In the Mountains of Madness, with zero connection to any previous characters or storylines.”
It’s certainly bold and original and really got me thinking that this would be bloody AWESOME! While I doubt we’d ever see anything like this, it’s certainly something that captures your attention, and the ‘theatre of the mind’ can certainly conjure up some very interesting images of this idea.
Whether Derrickson will ever actually get to realise this vision is very unlikely, but his idea is certainly different and it does get you thinking about just what could be done with the Star Wars canon.
