When it comes to modern American filmmaking giants, Spike Lee is a titan of the art form and who continues to push the medium of cinema forward with each new project. Here’s the official synopsis:
Four African American Vietnam veterans return to Vietnam. They are in search of the remains of their fallen squad leader and the promise of buried treasure. These heroes battle forces of humanity and nature while confronted by the lasting ravages of the immorality of the Vietnam War.
Wrapped together with 70s soul power, acid trip camera action and a phenomenal cast, Da 5 Bloods is a hard-hitting tale of loyalty, comradeship and the forgotten battlefields as five former G.I.’s return to Vietnam to do right by their former leader and find a buried treasure they had long left behind.
Through Lee’s intrepid lens, both history and fiction come together to paint an amazing and highly contemporary story that is wringing out with hard-hitting political intensity.
Standing front and centre within Da 5 Bloods is Chadwick Boseman as Norman, a legendary American G.I. Squad Leader possessed of valor and integrity, whom was loved by his men, and who sadly never made it back home. As he’s known to do, Boseman brings a massive intensity to the role of Norman, and Lee has definitely used his lead actors charisma to his advantage here, and it makes Da 5 Bloods all that more intriguing.
Da 5 Bloods is a cinematic experience that you’ll most definitely want to experience for yourself when it arrives on Netflix on June 12.
