Visually gifted storyteller David Ayer is returning to his home turf with of South Central Los Angeles with a gritty new drama in The Tax Collector, and this one is gonna give you a rush when the bullets start to spray courtesy of a chilling performance from Shia LeBouf.

Watch the ruthless new trailer below:

Here’s the official synopsis:

David (Bobby Soto) and Creeper (Shia LeBouf) work as “tax collectors” for a crime lord named Wizard, collecting his cut from the profits of local gangs. But when Wizard’s old rival returns to Los Angeles from Mexico, his entire business is upended, and David finds himself desperate to protect what matters most to him — his family.

When it comes to Southern California gang culture, Ayer has been the respected authority when capturing this on screen and taking audiences into a world that barely any of us could ever begin to comprehend. In The Tax Collector, Ayer takes us for the ride along, that is almost a flip of his lauded 2012 action film End of Watch, instead this time around he’s covering the exploits of two dangerous Cartel hitmen, David (Soto) and Creeper (LeBouf), who are assigned with collecting ‘taxes’ owed to a powerful cartel boss. But it soon becomes apparent that an even worse villain is on the street and when David and Creeper are threatened its then that they go to town.

The Tax Collector is Ayer right back in his element, and there’s plenty of booze, bullets and blood with this one to keep audiences pumped. Then mix into that a frightening portrayal from Shia LeBouf as Creeper, a violently unhinged enforcer, whom LeBouf appears to have gone full method on, and you’ve got the mixture of one freaking awesome crime thriller that any fan of Training Day or Hard Times is sure to dig!

Ayer understands his craft fully, and The Tax Collector looks like it will be something very special when it arrives on August 7.
