Here’s the official synopsis:
Herschel Greenbaum (Rogen), a struggling Ashkenazi laborer who immigrates to America in 1920 with dreams of building a better life for his beloved family. One day, while working at his factory job, he falls into a vat of pickles and is brined for 100 years. The brine preserves him perfectly and when he emerges in present-day Brooklyn, he finds that he hasn’t aged a day. But when he seeks out his family, he is horrified to learn that his only surviving relative is his great-grandson, Ben Greenbaum (Rogen), a mild-mannered computer programmer whom Herschel can’t even begin to understand.
Packed out with plenty of heart and a whole heap of quirks An American Pickle is a completely original piece of comedy that takes a solid look at family legacy and the pursuit of happiness in our modern world and it’s something that audiences will most definitely be entertained by.
Rogen appears to be at his most meditative here in An American Pickle and its’ fun to watch his as the polar opposite characters of Herschel and Ben who have to come to terms with each others completely different sensibilities, and go about building a life for each other. While An American Pickle sure looks like a kooky ride, there’s a lot of deep felt heart going on here and audiences will surely be entertained with by the hijinks here.
An American Pickle will arrive in cinemas on September 24.
