Watch the brand new trailer below:
Here’s the official synopsis:
Chairman Fred Hampton (Daniel Kaluuya) was 21 years old when he was assassinated by the FBI, who coerced a petty criminal named William O’Neal (LaKeith Stanfield) to help them silence him and the Black Panther Party. But they could not kill Fred Hampton’s legacy and, 50 years later, his words still echo…louder than ever.
Director Shaka King, with assistance of producer Ryan Coogler (Creed, Black Panther) brings to life this powerful true life story that takes audiences back to the turmoil and tension of the late 1960s as the Civil Rights movement was in full swing and intensity was building up around all involved. With this first trailer King grounds his audience the heat and fire the battle for civil rights, and focuses in on Daniel Kaluuya’s incrdible commitment and power as a performer here with his performance as Fred Hampton.
While Kaluuya leads with a heroic performance as the committed revolutionary, he’s joined on screen by LaKeith Stanfield who plays the figure of Judas with his turn as William O’Neal, the turncoat who would ultimately betray his mentor, teacher and hero, and there’s considerable conflict and humanity present in Stanfield’s performance with this one.
Judas and the Black Messiah has all the trappings of a potential Oscar worthy piece of cinema and audiences will be in for a rollercoaster of a ride with this one when it arrives in cinemas on later this year.
