One of 2020’s most anticipated releases is far and away Patty Jenkins bug budget sequel to 2017’s Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman 1984, and while there has been plenty of ups and downs due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, we now have a brand new trailer that has really heightened the energy for this much watch superheroine sequel.

In 1984, during the Cold War, Diana (Gal Gadot) comes into conflict with two formidable foes—media businessman Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal) and friend-turned-enemy Barbara Minerva/Cheetah (Kristen Wiig), while reuniting with her love interest Steve Trevor (Steve Trevor).
Released as a part of the DC Fandome event, this new trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 finds Diana of Themyscira (Gal Gadot) having left her heroic superpowers behind until a brand new unstoppable threat forces her into the open once again, as she has to stand up for what’s right in an effort to save the world.
Jenkins has not only bolstered the scale of her sequel, but her focus on narrative and character also makes this film a real treat. This is especially true when it comes to the film’s lead villains: the exotic Barbara Ann Minerva aka The Cheetah (Kristen Wiig) and billionaire capitalist Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal), whom is bent on world domination. This new trailer gives a terrific new insight into the upcoming film, and there’s plenty to keep audiences excited here, especially with the brand new look at Wiig’s Cheetah, who is sure to give Gadot’s Wonder Woman a run for her money in sheer energy and ferocity.
Like the first Wonder Woman film, this sequel also puts its focus squarely on the thematic structure of time, and this is especially important with the re-appearance of Diana’s long dead lover Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) returning to the plot in a very unexpected way. The emotion that we felt for these two lovers only intensifies in Wonder Woman 1984, and they’ll be all the feels with this one.
We also have to mention that the film’s focus on the 1980s also creates a space for plenty of fun, and the unique pop vibe and aesthetic of the decade will lead to some amazing visuals on screen.
DC Fandome and the presence of this new trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 was also important as it signaled the 80th anniversary of Wonder Woman’s original publication.
Wonder Woman 1984 is the complete and total package and will arrive in cinemas on October 1, 2020.
