Yep, that’s right, it’s official, Patty Jenkin’s Wonder Woman 1984 has once again been pushed out due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis and will now arrive in cinemas this Christmas.

This new relate date was confirmed by Variety, and coincides with a statement from Warmer Bros Motion Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich who praised not only the film, but also Patty Jenkin’s role in it. “Patty is an exceptional filmmaker and with ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ she has delivered an incredibly dynamic film that moviegoers of all ages around the world will absolutely love,” said Emmerich. “We’re very proud of the film and look forward to bringing it to audiences for the holidays.”

Jenkins also released her own statement on the new release date saying:

“First and foremost let me say how much Gal and I love all our devoted Wonder Woman fans around the world, and your excitement for ‘WW84’ couldn’t make us happier or more eager for you to see the movie. Because I know how important it is to bring this movie to you on a big screen when all of us can share the experience together, I’m hopeful you won’t mind waiting just a little bit longer. With the new date on Christmas Day, we can’t wait to spend the holidays with you!”

The Christmas release date is peak time for blockbusters, and always carries some of 2020’s biggest ever releases, such as the Star Wars films as well as 2018’s Aquaman.

This new release date will place Wonder Woman 1984 in direct competition with Dune, which will release on December 26, but it’s more than likely that Dune will now be pushed out to 2021.

Here’s the official synopsis for Wonder Woman 1984:

In 1984, during the Cold War, Diana (Gal Gadot) comes into conflict with two formidable foes—media businessman Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal) and friend-turned-enemy Barbara Minerva/Cheetah (Kristen Wiig), while reuniting with her love interest Steve Trevor (Steve Trevor).

We might have to wait a little bit longer, but it will definitely be worth it given the blockbuster thrills that are promised with Wonder Woman 1984 and I definitely now know what I want for Christmas.

Wonder Woman 1984 will be released on December 25.
