‘Conan The Barbarian’ in development at Netflix
When it comes to icons of the sword and sorcery genre they don’t get more mighty than Robert E. Howard’s Conan. This raw and powerful character continues to inspire fantasy lovers the world over and in a very exciting development, a new series is now in the works at Netflix.
Deadline confirms that plans are being drawn up for a live-action Conan series to stream on Netflix, after Netflix acquired the rights to the Conan literary works of famed pulp writer Robert E. Howard who created the character back in 1932 in Weird Tales magazine. Since then the character has barbarian character has become synonymous with fantasy and has been portrayed in major film works by actors such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jason Momoa.
The deal is between Conan Properties International and Netflix and will allow Netflix access to develop live action television and films, along with animation works as well from the Conan material.
A search is currently underway for a writer/showrunner to pen the Conan adaptation and director to helm the project.
It’s very exciting news for fans of the character and I will be keeping my eyes open for where this goes next.
