In an exciting development for Mad Max fans, legendary director George Miller has now announced the line-up for his much anticipated Mad Max prequel, Furiosa!

As reported by Variety, Miller has just cast Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in lead roles in the new film with Taylor-Joy confirmed be taking on the role of the young Furiosa, who was previously played to universal critical acclaim by Charlize Theron in 2015’s all action motor epic Mad Max: Fury Road.

It’s a massive step for the 24 year old actress and will propel her forward even more into the emerging A-list and she’s got great company alongside Hemsworth and Abdul-Mateen II.

Miller will once again write, produce and direct and while he said that he had considered using de-aging technology to bring back Charlize Theron in the Furiosa role, the decision was ultimately made to cast Taylor-Joy instead, who was initially in talks for the role back in March.

Another new cast member who is extremely excited for the upcoming production is Australian star Chris Hemsworth who is rumored to be playing the film’s villain, and which is a rumor I hope holds true as it’s about time we see Hemsworth stretch out with a new character, and a villainous role would be great for his resume.

Hemsworth took to Instagram to confirm his casting and described it as a moment of national pride for him, as long as life-long dream which is now fulfilled as he will get the chance to work with Miller.

On Instagram, Hemsowrth said, “pretty damn fired up to be a part of a franchise that meant the world to me as a kid growing up in Australia. Mad Max was the pinnacle and a huge reason why I got into the business of telling stories. The fact that I’ll have the honor of not only being directed by its original visionary in George Miller but also take part in Furiosa’s origin story is incredibly exciting. Huge respect to George, Mel, Charlize, Tom and all the cast and crew who helped build this epic world. I’ll do my best to continue the tradition of cinematic badassery.”

While there is no confirmed start date or release date set for Furiosa yet, it’s likely that filming won’t start till at least 2022/2023 so it’ll be a while before we finally see it, but it’ll definitely be worth the wait!

I for one am very excited about the possibilities with the Furiosa prequel and can’t wait to see what happens next.
