The magic comes alive with ‘Raya and the Last Dragon’

Building on the grand tradition and legacy of Walt Disney Animation, the geniuses at the house of mouse are now returning to the big screen with an amazing piece of animation that draws on Eastern mythology and martial arts and sets the stage for an incredible cinematic rush with Raya and the Last Dragon.

Watch the all-new teaser trailer below:

Here’s the official synopsis:

Long ago, in the fantasy world of Kumandra, humans and dragons lived together in harmony. But everything changed when sinister monsters known as the Druun attacked, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. A 500 years passed, those same monsters have returned and it’s up to a lone warrior named Raya, to track down the last dragon in order to finally stop the Druun for good. However, along her journey, she’ll learn that it’ll take more than dragon magic to save the world—it’s going to take trust as well.

Directed by Don Hall and Carlos López Estrada, Raya and the Last Dragon takes audiences into an all-new mythical world of Kumandra and charts the heroic journey of Raya (Kelly Marie Tran), who seeks to fulfil her destiny as a Guardian of the Dragon Gem.

The first teaser is a great look at the film and promises a film that balances both narrative with innovative action, alongside a wickedly cool animation style that has taken the influence of classic manga art and immersed it into the Disney style.

For me personally, the stand-out part of the teaser was Raya’s relationship with her best friend, the cute, cuddly armadillo-like Tuk-Tuk, who is sure to give the audience plenty of laughs as Raya embarks on her journey.

Both the classical and the modern come together here in this first look at Raya and the Last Dragon, and it promises a big screen event cinema that is not to be missed in 2021.

Raya and the Last Dragon will arrive in cinemas next year on April 1, 2021.
