With Johnny Depp withdrawing from the role of the villainous Gellert Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3, new rumours are circling that Warner Brothers are eagerly moving to replace Depp, and that director David Yates has his front runner picked.
According to Deadline, Yates is looking to tap the services of acclaimed performer Mads Mikkelsen to take on the role of Gellert Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3 as a replacement for Depp.
When it comes to portraying villains Mikkelsen is a master performer with roles as Le Chiffre in Casino Royale, Kaecilius in Doctor Strange and his noted performance as Dr. Hannibal Lector in Hannibal. He’s an actor who can truly do it all and is a master of his craft and would be a fitting replacement for Depp as Grindelwald.
Wild these rumors of Mikkelsen’s casting are still developing, we’re yet to have a definitive answer just yet, but given that filming has already begun on Fantastic Beasts 3 I wouldn’t;t be surprised if we had a full announcement very soon.
Fantastic Beasts 3 will arrive in cinemas next year on November 12, 2021.
