2021 is shaping up to be a very busy year for legendary director Ridley Scott. Not only will his epic tale of love and revenge, The Last Duel, finally arrive in cinemas on October 15, 2021, but he’ll also be working to bring to life another epic in Gucci.
Best described as a true-crime, fashion story, Gucci is based on the book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed by Sara G. Forden, and will focus on the murder of fashion trailblazer Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver), by his ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga), who was convicted of orchestrating his death after discovering he had an affair.
It’s a sensational story and should appeal to Scott’s epic flair for visual worldbuilding and highly intricate stories and would be a worthy companion piece to the director’s 2017 film All The Money In The World.
In addition to Adam Driver and Lady Gaga, Gucci will also star Jeremy Irons as Maurizio Gucci’s father Rodolfo Gucci, along with Jared Leto, Al Pacino, Jack Huston and Reeve Carney, whose roles have yet to be disclosed.
Gucci should allow Scott to paint a thoroughly evocative and expresses canvas of late 1980s-early 1990s excess, and audiences will undoubtedly be in for a treat with this one.
Gucci is set to arrive in cinemas on November 24, 2021.
