New plot details arrive for ‘The Suicide Squad’

2021 is upon us and a brand new year promises some incredible new blockbuster movies, and one of 2021’s most anticipated releases is the totally, crazy, supervillain blockbuster The Suicide Squad, directed by the one and only James Gunn.

While we got a tease of the new film last year, we’ve now got new details concerning the film’s plot.

As confirmed by Empire, The Suicide Squad again finds government overseer Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) forming a ‘suicide squad’ of high risk, but completely expendable assets made up of the literal ‘worst of the worst’ prisoners. Under the command of Colonel Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), these operators including Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Bloodsport (Idris Elba), Peacemaker (John Cena), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Polka-Dot Man (David Dastmalchian), Ratcatcher 2 (Daniela Melchior) and a whole heap of over crazies are tasked to infiltrate the dictatorship of Corto Maltese, a small South Amerian island, and destroy a Nazi-era prison and laboratory named Jotunheim, where political prisoners are being held and experimented upon.

But as always nothing is what it seems thanks to the genius of James Gunn who is about to really shake up the DCEU with this one.

Described as a ‘gritty 1970s era war movie’, The Suicide Squad is going o tease out some crazy moments on screen, and Gunn has literally created his own playground of destruction here, building out incredible sets and then blowing them to hell and back thanks to an all-star crew.

The Suicide Squad promises to be a hell of a lot of fun, and for those of us who are wishing for a mega-blockbuster experience, well, it looks like we’ll get it with this one. Part of the fun of The Suicide Squad is just how far Gunn is willing to stretch his roster of bad guys and criminals, with some of them showing some sense of a higher purpose to their actions….while others are just completely crappy through and through.

Gunn has also confirmed that the film will be rated R, so audiences can expect maximum carnage with this one, which a lot of us are wanting to see!

The Suicide Squad will arrive in cinemas on August 6.
