For action aficionados, 2021’s Mortal Kombat is shaping up to be a very exciting new debut, and now we’ve got a brand new look into the film and it’s cast.

Debuting on the official Mortal Kombat Instagram channel, we now have a brand new look at the principle characters including Liu Kang (Ludi Lin), Bi-Han/Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim), Raiden (Tadanobu Asano), Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee), Jackson “Jax” Briggs (Mehcad Brooks), Kano (Josh Lawson), Shang Tsung (Chin Han), Hanzo Hasashi/Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada) and new character Cole Young (Lewis Tan).

While we’re still to see an official fist look trailer, director Simon McQuoid and producers James Wan and Todd Garner are promising an action event that will bring on all the blood, gore and fatalities of this cult classic video game. McQuoid’s direction looks to also have grounded the film in real-world mixed martial arts, so they’ll be plenty of ground and pound action to get audiences fired up.

Looking pitch-perfect in their roles veteran performers Joe Taslim and Hiroyuki Sanada who will take on the dual roles of mortal enemy ninja’s Sub-Zero and Scorpion, and for the two characters, this long-range fight to the death looks very personal. Then add-in the fresh energy of a hot young cast including Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Mehcad Brooks as Jax Briggs and Lewis Tan as Cole Young and we’ve got a film that could shape up to be a very fun ride for action audiences.

Two characters that I’m really interested in finally seeing on-screen include Tadanobu Asano’s Raiden, my personal all-time favourite Mortal Kombat, and Josh Lawson’s criminal-scumbag Kano, who is sure to be a great bad guy up on screen.

Get ready for plenty of martial arts carnage when Mortal Kombat arrives in cinemas on April 16, 2021.
