IT’S OFFICIAL! We now have our principal cast for HBO’s The Last of Us with the casting of Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey confirmed as series leads Joel and Ellie.
The casting of Pascal and Ramsey was confirmed by Deadline, and its announcement is making waves around the internet.
Based on the critically acclaimed video game The Last of Us, developed by Naughty Dog exclusively for the PlayStation platforms, the story takes place twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel (Pascal), a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie (Game of Thrones‘ Bella Ramsey), a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.
Pascal celebrated his casting by taking to Instagram to confirm his role in the series, captioning a screenshot of the characters of Joel and Ellie with a favourite in-game quote: “…no matter what, you keep finding something to fight for.”

Chernobyl creators Craig Mazin and Naughty Dog game director Neil Druckmann will serve as the principle showrunners for the series which will debut on HBO and will be a co-production with Sony Productions.
Along with bringing to life one of the biggest blockbuster video games of all-time, the castings of Pascal and Ramsey is also a Game of Thrones reunion, with both actors drawing considerable praise for their time on the series.
Pascal’s casting as Joel again confirms him as one of the most in-demand stars working today following his work on The Mandalorian and Wonder Woman 1984, and he’s sure to make this another stellar performance.
While we are far from any kind of production start and we don’t know how this series will unfold due to Pascal’s schedule, we’re definitely excited to see what comes next and this one is definitely going to be exciting!
