Here’s the official synopsis:
A washed-up mixed martial arts fighter named Cole Young is unaware of his hidden lineage or why he is being hunted down by Sub-Zero of the Lin-Kuei clan of assassins. Concerned for the safety of his family, he seeks out a clique of fighters that were chosen to defend Earthrealm in a high-stakes battle against the forces of Outworld.
Directed by newcomer Simon McQuoid, and shepherded by filmmaker James Wan, Mortal Kombat is packed full of bone-crunching martial arts action and some kick-ass visuals, and fans of the Mortal Kombat mythos are gonna be amped for this one!
R-rated and packing a good helping of gore, Mortal Kombat focuses its attention om new fighter Cole Young (Lewis Tan), a once-promising young MMA fighter who joins a group of fellow warriors including Special Forces soldier Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee), demented criminal Kano (Josh Lawson) and astute and disciplined Shaolin monk Liu Kang (Ludi Lin), who must battle for Earth in a great tournament known as Mortal Kombat.
But behind the journeys of Young, Blade, Kano and Kang, lies a brutal blood feud that is carried out between master assassins Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada) and Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim), and these two mortal adversaries have a serious axe to grind!
McQuoid and his stunt team balance both the high concept carnage of the video game, with some in-your-face MMA ground and pound and action junkies will get a solid kick out of this one.
Mortal Kombat is set to arrive on April 15.
