It’s been over a year since we’ve had any news about the much-awaited sequel to the Saw franchise, Spiral: The Book of Saw, and now a brand new trailer has arrived and it promises an intense time at the movies for horror fans.
Watch the new trailer below:
Here’s the official synopsis:
Working in the shadow of an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner William Schenk (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly trapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.
Directed by noted horror director Darren Lynn Bousman, who was one of the architects of the Saw franchise, Spiral is based on an original pitch from actor Chris Rock, a fan of the original Saw franchise, who saw a unique opportunity to do something new with the franchise, and from all accounts, this is going to be a terrifying watch.
A new Jigsaw copycat killer is on the loose, and the fear ramps up quickly as cops are targeted and Rock’s Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks is drawn deeper into a mystery that was written in the past and which is playing out in the present with haunting results.
For those looking for a horror rush, director Darren Lynn Bousman will certainly give it to them with plenty of inventive horrors and a good range of scares, while also pushing Spiral more in the direction of a hard-edged noir-thriller where every second counts.
Rock looks particularly committed in the role of Zeke and this is definitely a part in which audiences have never seen him play before. The actor embraces the part of a committed and dedicated cop, who is incredibly smart and can see the bigger picture, and it will be interesting to see him interact with Samuel L. Jackon as his estranged father Marcus. What’s more, will be why Zeke and Marcus Banks are the targets of this new killer who has decided to continue Jigsaw’s legacy and just what secrets they are holding onto that could see them marked as targets.
Get ready to embrace plenty of new horrors when Spiral: The Book of Saw arrives in cinemas on May 13.
