Here’s the official synopsis:
When Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) is drawn into the clandestine Ten Rings organization, he is forced to confront the past he thought he left behind.
Director Destin Daniel Cretton (Just Mercy) has crafted a heroic piece of action cinema that honours the spirit and soul of Asian martial arts, and in the process introduces us to an incredible new hero in the form of Simu Liu’s Shang Chi, a master of the martial arts and the estranged son of Wenwu (Tony Leung), the terrifying leader of the mysterious Ten Rings, who has his own plans for world domination, unless his own son can stop him.
Hitting with the solid force of a spinning back kick and showcasing some epic visuals, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is an epic new jolt of action within the MCU and Simu Liu owns the screen as this dynamic and rapidly fast fighter. Cretton dives deep into the mythological Heroes Journey for this one, and we’ll see a wayward young man determine a new path for himself and rise up to become the hero that the world needs in a dark and dangerous time.
Alongside Liu, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is packed out with an incredible cast of talented performers who include Tony Leung, a legend of Hong Kong cinema, who stars as Wenwu Shang Chi’s father and is the ruthless leader of the Ten Rings, Awkwafina as Katy, Shang-Chi’s best friend and an ordinary young woman who finds herself on a mighty adventure, Meng’er Zhang as Xialing, Shang-Chi’s estranged sister and Wenwu’s daughter, Michelle Yeoh as Jiang Nan and Florian Munteanu as Razor Fist, a hard-hitting and dangerous mercenary.
Cretton gives his audience an amazing first insight into the world of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in this first teaser trailer, and the action and intensity is sure to keep audiences pumped. Mixing in hard-hitting mixed martial action with unique Chinese folklore fantasy, and plenty of contemporary spy thrills, in my opinion, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is very much going to be Marvel Studio’s own ‘Jame Bond-esque film’ and I think audiences will be in for a hell of a surprise with this one.
brace yourselves for action and the rise of a new hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe when Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings arrives in cinemas on September 2.
