The classic adventures of the roguish Ross Poldark captivated audiences with a sexy and saucy new take in the recent 2015 BBC adaptation starring Aidan Turner in the title role and Eleanor Tomlinson as his wild lover Demelza. Now thanks to Acorn TV, audiences can step back in time and catch up with this tale in the classic 1975 Poldark television series which will be re-broadcast for audiences.

A true classic that first aired on Masterpiece Theatre in 1975, Poldark is a gripping romantic drama set in the 18th Century, following America’s War for Independence. Robin Ellis (The Europeans, The Good Soldier) stars as Captain Ross Poldark, a young hero who was thought to have died in the war but instead returns home to find his estate in ruins, his inheritance gone, and his beloved Elizabeth (Jill Townsend, Alfie Darling) engaged to another man.

Drawing comparisons to Gone with the Wind, this captivating story showcases stunning images of the Cornish coast, spurring a surge in tourism when it first aired to an audience of 15 million viewers each Sunday evening. Also starring Clive Francis (A Clockwork Orange, Inspector Clouseau, Mr. Turner) and Jane Wymark (Midsomer Murders).

Fans of the BBC series should definitely check this original series out, both for historical purposes, alongside taking a deeper look into the history and narrative of Winston Graham’s classic stories which has continued to entrance audiences the world over, ever since it was first published in 1945.

Poldark will arrive on Acorn TV on Monday 26 April, and until then audiences can keep themselves entertained with a terrific array of new and classic content including The Hour, Balthazar, Whites and Cider With Rosie.
