Tom Hiddleston is burdened with glorious purpose in ‘Loki’

Marvel’s greatest ever trickster is set to return on Disney+ in his own brand new series in Loki, which has now moved up and is ready to release on June 9, and a brand new clip showcases all the mischief that awaits fans in this all-new series.

Here’s the official synopsis:

After stealing the Tesseract during the events of Avengers: Endgame, an alternate version of Loki is brought to the mysterious Time Variance Authority (TVA), a bureaucratic organization that exists outside of time and space and monitors the timeline. They give Loki a choice: face being deleted from existence due to being a “time variant”, or help fix the timeline and stop a greater threat. Loki ends up trapped in his own crime thriller, traveling through time and altering human history.

This new spot for Loki focuses in on the mischievous antics of Loki, or as he is dubbed by the TVA, ‘the Loki varient’, who having stolen the Tesseract has thrown the whole of the Marvel Universe into disarray and is now tasked with putting it back together…..as if he’ll really do that.

This is not the redemptive Loki that we saw Tom Hiddleston become at the end of Thor: Ragnarok, but instead the maniacal, tyrannical uber-villain that fans the world over have fallen in love with and there’s plenty of glee in Hiddleston’s performance here. He’s clearly having a blast as he once again gets to be completely bad-to-the-bone and this version of Loki is having the time of his life in this new series.

This series is also an incredibly exciting new opportunity for Marvel as we once again get to dive into its sci-fi leanings and they’ll be plenty of fun and surprises waiting for long-time MCU fans in this series.

Loki is set to arrive on Disney+ on June 9.
